The Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) is a Cambridge Teaching Qualification that enables you to teach English in the UK and abroad. Our Portsmouth branch runs CELTA courses throughout the year.
Cambridge ESOL's Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults is one of the world's foremost initial qualifications for people who want to become professional teachers of English language. It is accepted by teaching organisations throughout the world.
The programme is for people with little or no previous experience of teaching, or those who have teaching experience outside of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
You will be assessed throughout the course and your final grade is based on your progress by the end of the course. The main way you are assessed is through teaching practice – you will teach for a total of 6 hours, working with classes at two levels of ability. You will also complete four written assignments.
100% attendance is required.
The CELTA is awarded to candidates who have completed the programme and who have met the assessment criteria for all written and practical assignments. CELTA can be used to get a job in language schools in the UK and abroad. You can progress onto the Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA), which can be taken after a minimum of 2 year’s teaching experience.
The Course fee of £1300 includes the Cambridge examination fee. Full payment needs to be made two weeks before the course starts. Late enrolments will be accepted upon full immediate payment.
Please see the Terms & Conditions in the application form.
You can apply using the CELTA application form or by calling 02392 732113 and speaking to a member of TEG Portsmouth. You will also need to complete a pre-interview task, which can be sent to you. You will be asked to come to an interview at TEG Portsmouth or on Skype (Skype name: CELTAcourse).
