One of the words you hear most frequently teamed with Netflix, is Binge. To binge means to do a lot of something you enjoy. So, this is the ideal scenario: to learn while doing a lot of something you enjoy. Watching films and television has always been highly recommended as an immersive way to supplement language learning.

Now, the widespread use of Netflix means that you can do this even more proactively. The best part is that, not only can you listen to the dialogue, but you can also switch on subtitles to see the words you are listening to at the same time.

Google Chrome has even introduced an extension called Language Learning with Netflix where you can view subtitles in 2 languages to compare the English translation with your own language, highlight more difficult vocabulary and pause to go back over previous sections.

Who would have thought that learning English could be so easy!

TEG English Tip:

We all pay closer attention and pick up more information when reading or listening to a topic that truly interests us.

TEDTalks cover a multitude of topics from science to technology and from culture to design. But what is even more special about this website is the way the various subjects are delivered. TED speakers all have the charisma to deliver information in a way that is engaging and entertaining in a short amount of time (usually no longer than 20 minutes).

The talks are a great way to pick up new English vocabulary, while also learning to express yourself in different ways in order to get a message across.

It is all about the art of story telling to win over an audience and deliver a clear message.

An added bonus is that most talks even allow you to view the full transcript, follow the words as they are spoken, and compare the vocabulary with what you have heard to reinforce your learning.

TEG English Tip:
