Summer in Bristol. April 2016

The sun is out and summer is coming! Bristol Language College is a great place to study English during the summer months as there are lots of festivals taking place round this exciting city! Throughout the year Bristol hosts a great mix of activities and entertainment and in the summer the city really comes to life! There is a full programme of events with an exciting mix of music, literature, entertainment and outdoor fun. No matter what time of year you visit, you’ll be sure to find an event that suits you.


On April 28th starts Bristol Food Connections, a week long festival of international food and cooking around the city centre. During the day you will find tasty treats, interactive workshops and celebrity chefs and in the evening live music, wine tasting and street-food.

Every day in May there is an organised and active walk with Walk Fest. They have arranged a full programme with opportunities to explore Bristol, meet new people, practice English and get some fresh air with people of all ages and abilities.

Enjoy all things German from 5th to 8th May with traditional wooden huts full of homemade craft beers, authentic music, German food and products in Millennium square. On the same weekend Bristol’s longest road, Gloucester Road, hosts Mayfest Carnival. This popular free community event with musicians and dancers has markets offering a range of free creative activities and special sales.

One of the highlights of the year will be the Bristol Harbour Festival, in July, which is free and attracts around 200,000 people. It has two miles of entertainment along Bristol’s iconic harbour which include a dance village, three music stages and boat parties on the water.


A touch of colour will come to Bristol when Upfest, Europe’s largest urban art festival, between July 23 and 25.

The most famous event involves 100 hot air balloons decorating the sky during  Bristol’s International Balloon Fiesta between August 11 and 14. This annual festival attracts over 500,000 people from around the world each year.
